Playback 1 The president is sending some mixed signals over the broader issue of immigration.

Playback 2 It's on the back burner. This is literally a life and death program for American kids.

Playback 3 There was a definite attempt by Russia to influence elections.

Playback 4 This week Trump announced he would pull out of the Paris climate change agreement.

Playback 5 Women are speaking out against what they call pervasive sexual harassment in the political world.

Jasmine Jones OK, let's face it. The struggle is real. We seem to be confronted with daily reminders of the uphill battles we face to create a society that is inclusive and caring. A society that lifts up the most vulnerable among us.

Jonathan Stein But we think there's reason to be hopeful.

Jasmine Jones I'm Jasmine Jones, an organizer, public servant, and current master of public affairs student at the Goldman School of Public Policy. I believe policy has the potential to right the wrongs of this country's dark past.

Jonathan Stein And I'm Jonathan Stein, a voting rights attorney and an alumni of the Goldman School. I'm working to build a democracy that reflects the full diversity of our country and respond to the needs of regular people. This is Talk Policy to Me. We want to highlight advocates, policymakers, and researchers who are doing amazing work. People who show us that public policy is powerful and also personal.

Jasmine Jones Because as real as the struggle is it is also true that little wins are happening all over California and throughout the country. A lot of this change is happening because the next generation of leaders is stepping up.

Playback 6 I was amazed at the young people coming out to vote. Half of voters must have been under 40.

Playback 7 The movement has to be led by those that are most affected by these policies as much as immigrant youth can continue to increase their voices. I think the better off all of us will be.

Playback 8 It is a real night and day difference and and in large part I think that's due to student activism. When it comes down to it where a more compassionate country than maybe some of the recent rhetoric would suggest.

Playback 9 I don't think all the cards have been played yet. Something has to change and I've got something to say about it.

Jonathan Stein Talk policy to me is a mix of commentary and storytelling ,and yes some policy analysis too. We love policy analysis at the Goldman School. It's a podcast that will highlight compelling stories about why inform policy making still matters. It's a podcast that will show you sometimes creative solutions can come about in the midst of uncertainty and struggle.

Jasmine Jones It's a podcast that will show you that our generation just might have a few new solutions to some old policy problems. I'm looking forward to this Jonathan.

Jonathan Stein Me too Jasmine. You can find talk policy to me in iTunes or wherever you subscribe to podcasts. And check your feed for upcoming series on immigration.
