"Veterans and their family members understand the sacrifices that come with public service. We are committed to empowering leaders to engage in meaningful work within local and state communities that need them most.”
– Dean David C. Wilson, military veteran with 19 years of service to the US Army Reserves, including combat tours for Operations Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom.

Veterans and military families embody the qualities we most need in the leaders shaping our collective futures: leadership, teamwork, resilience, integrity, and a commitment to the public good.
The Service to Service initiative connects U.S. veterans (and their spouses) to the Goldman School of Public Policy’s full suite of opportunities, as well as access to the robust offerings throughout UC Berkeley.
The Goldman School may be the right next step for you if you are interested in any of the following:
- Continuing the mission of public service by pursuing a career path in public policy with government agencies, nonprofit organizations, or private companies.
- Building on your leadership experience with advanced training in public administration, organizational management, and policy analysis.
- Immersing yourself in a community of smart, dedicated changemakers committed to the public good.
- Expanding your professional network to include 3000+ Goldman School alumni working in government, non-profit, and private sectors.
- Studying at UC Berkeley, a premier academic institution with a longstanding public mission.
Qualifying veterans or their families can use the GI bill to finance their master's degree. UC Berkeley is designated as a Yellow Ribbon Program and is also a minority-serving institution. In addition, military-affiliated students have access to a variety of campus resources designed to support their unique needs.
If admitted, active military, veterans and military spouses (or widows/widowers) are eligible for our Service to Service Fellowship. This unique opportunity is an innovative partnership between the Goldman School, We The Veterans, and the Volcker Alliance. Service to Service Fellows benefit from resources and programming designed to support their academic and professional success in our master’s degree programs.
Explore the Goldman School’s three Master’s degree programs:

- Master of Development Practice (MDP) - an interdisciplinary program that equips leaders to solve global and local sustainable development challenges
