Learn From Prominent UC Berkeley Faculty

The MPA is a flexible degree that allows students to choose electives that best fit their academic and career goals. Actual course availability varies year to year and is subject to change.

In-person Electives

Students who are located near UC Berkeley are welcome to take courses in almost any department on campus. In addition to policy courses offered by the Goldman School, a sample of departments where students have taken electives include: Haas School of Business, Boalt School of Law, School of Public Health, School of Social Welfare, Data Science, and City and Regional Planning. 

Online Electives

Students who intend to pursue their MPA degree online in the fall and spring semesters have a select set of electives offered online. In addition to the Goldman School, departments offering online electives include the School of Public Health and School of Information. A sample of courses offered include: Benefit-Cost Analysis, Performance Management, Program Evaluation, Negotiations, Legal Policy for Data Scientists, and a diverse offering of Public Health courses.
