About

Karla is a first-generation student and single mother of four children, ages 6, 7, 13, and 17.  She graduated from UC Berkeley with a bachelor's in Legal Studies in 2021. Karla was born in Mexico City and came to the U.S. as an infant. Raised in California's Bay Area and Central Valley, as an immigrant, woman, brown person of color, and carceral-systems impacted individual, Karla witnessed many injustices first-hand, including seeing those transgressions also affect loved ones in her community. Tired of seeing the vulnerable fall prey, Karla sought education to skill herself with the knowledge to tap into institutions of power to make positive changes a reality.

As an aspiring dual Masters in Public Policy degree holder, Karla's mission is to bring awareness of the oppressed (primarily: POC, immigrants, women, children, and the incarcerated) to the forefront of policy and expose loopholes within the law and policy to bring forth a long-lasting policy that protects the vulnerable from injustice. Karla aspires to continue to be a community leader, source, and ally to empower the socially oppressed with the equity they deserve-- to build a prosperous future for her children and children to come.
