About PPIA
The Summer of 2008 will mark the 27th year the Goldman School has hosted a Summer Institute in policy skills. The UCPPIA Summer Institute seeks to prepare future leaders for graduate studies. Participants of the UCPPIA program possess a commitment to public service and, in particular, to addressing policy issues most affecting historically under-served communities and people of color.
The Summer Institute offers student participants a rigorous seven-week program of coursework designed to improve the participants’ analytical and quantitative skills vital to success at top-level graduate programs in public policy and international affairs. Additionally, the Institute includes a variety of activities intended to give participants a comprehensive knowledge of the opportunities for professional careers in public service. Each year the program admits approximately 30 undergraduates from across the nation.
UCPPPIA Law Fellowship - This summer, 10 slots will be allotted to students interested in pursuing joint degrees in law and public policy. In addition to learning the fundamentals of policy analysis, PPIA Law Fellows will be exposed to the topics and skills necessary to gain entry to and succeed at a top law school. The UCPPIA Law Fellowship is launched in conjunction with UC Berkeley School of Law and is designed to shape future leaders committed to representing under-served communities in the areas of law and public policy.
As a University of California sponsored program, the Junior Summer Institute at UC Berkeley works in partnership with the policy schools at Berkeley, UCLA, and UC San Diego. Faculty members from all three institutions have taught the policy course modules.
