Upcoming Deadline For Fall 2016 Applicants

The deadline for the application and supplemental materials is Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at 11:59PM PST. Note: Please be aware that some concurrent degree application deadlines are different from the single-degree MPP application deadline.

Here are a few important points to keep in mind as you prepare to submit your application by December 1st. For more detailed information please visit our Admissions Page and FAQs.

Basic Admissions Requirements

Letters of Recommendation: At least three letters of recommendation are required by the application deadline. We cannot guarantee that Letters of Recommendation received after the application deadline will be reviewed with your application. You may submit up to four letters of recommendation. All letters of recommendation should be submitted electronically. Once you have started the on-line application, the instructions for how to submit letters of recommendation can be found in the main menu under “Recommendations.”

Resume: Please upload a current resume, reflecting your work experience, education, and any other relevant information. We do not have a page limit, but most tend to be between two and five pages in length. We advise applicants to be detailed and expansive.

GRE Scores: All applicants are required to take the GRE. Official GRE scores are due the same day the application is due, December 1, 2015. There are fields on the application to submit self-report GRE scores. These will serve as placeholders until we receive the official scores from ETS.

Required Transcripts: Please upload unofficial transcripts from all universities or colleges attended. If you studied abroad, either as part of an exchange program administered by your school or on your own, please upload those transcripts as well. Note - It is not necessary to submit transcripts from the abroad university if the courses, credits, and grades appear on your degree-awarding university transcript.

Required Policy Statement of Purpose: The section in the application titled Statement of Purpose is a standard field on all UCB graduate applications that we're unable to edit, so we include the Policy Statement of Purpose field to include GSPP specific instructions. For GSPP, we ask that you upload the same essay for the Statement of Purpose and Policy Statement of Purpose fields. The length of this essay should be approximately 3-5 pages.

Required Personal History Statement: There is no length requirement for the Personal History Statement. However, this essay is generally 1-2 pages, double spaced.

Submitting Documents: Our application system can only accept PDF documents. PDF documents including transcripts cannot be encrypted or password protected. If your transcript or other PDF document in encrypted or password protected, please click here for instructions.

Make Sure You Submit Your Application: Paying the application fee does not automatically submit your application. It is possible to pay the application fee without submitting your application.

FAQ in the GSPP inbox

“Berkeley does not offer a dual MPP/MBA, so prospective students must choose to apply to one of the two degrees. If I apply to Goldman instead of Haas, would it be relatively easy to enroll in business classes at Haas? Or are classes at Haas largely reserved for MBA students? Conversely, if I apply to Haas, how easy is it to enroll in classes at Goldman?”

While we do not offer a concurrent degree with the Haas School of Business, students may take electives there. What's great about the electives is that they can be taken anywhere campus. The University course catalogue is open to you, which means you can take classes at Berkeley Law, Haas School of Business, College of Engineering, Social Welfare, School of Public Health, College of Natural Resources, School of Education, School of Journalism, School of Information, and more.

To get a snapshot of what classes are available to non-MBA students, the best route is to contact the Haas School of Business directly.

The MPP Core (210A+B, 260A+B, 200, 205, 299) is restricted to MPP students. Non-MPP students may enroll in other elective MPP courses, with some exceptions. If you have questions about specific MPP courses, please contact Isaac Castro, PPIA Program Manager and Student Services Advisor, at icastro@berkeley.edu.
