David Gutierrez (MPP ’15, MA-IAS ’16)

David Gutierrez

David began his work in international affairs with the Carter Center’s Americas Program where he was tasked with updating the Center’s staff on economic and political developments in Venezuela and Cuba. After the Carter Center, David joined the Migration Policy Institute (MPI) in Washington, DC and worked with their Regional Migration Study Group.  During his time at MPI, David worked on identifying the potential impact that Mexican immigrants living abroad could have on Mexico’s 2012 presidential election. He then worked as a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant in Mexico City.

Upon arriving at Goldman, David became a concurrent Masters student working on getting graduate degrees in Public Policy and International Area Studies. He was subsequently awarded the Rangel International Affairs Graduate Fellowship, a fellowship intended to prepare graduate students for careers with the US Foreign Service. David chose the Goldman School of Public Policy because of its strong reputation in quantitative analysis, as well as its flexibility regarding a policy concentration. He has enjoyed the opportunity to strengthen his quantitative skills, while also being able to take courses in departments all across campus. Upon graduating, David plans to work as a Political Officer with the US Foreign Service.

David graduated from the University of Georgia in 2011, with a B.A. in International Affairs, Latin American and Caribbean Studies, and Spanish.
