Voluntary Registry Offsets Database

Voluntary Registry Offsets Database

The database, developed by the Berkeley Carbon Trading Project in collaboration with Carbon Direct, contains all carbon offset projects, credit issuances, and credit retirements listed globally by four major voluntary offset project registries—Climate Action Reserve (CAR), American Carbon Registry (ACR), Verra (VCS/CCB), and Gold Standard. These four registries generate almost all of the world's voluntary market offsets and also include projects eligible for use under the California / Quebec linked cap-and-trade programs.

This database is meant to increase the transparency of the carbon offset market, providing researchers and offset buyers with the ability to better see offset credits and projects in a single database. Dynamic charts and tools allow users to see trends over time, and explore the projects and credits on the market by location, type, registry, etc.

We first developed this database to explore offset credit types and trends as researchers of offset quality at the Berkeley Carbon Trading Project and as buyers and developers of offsets at the University of California. We've found it so useful we decided to release it and continue updating it for anyone to use.

  • The new tab ‘Credits by Vintage’ shows all issuances, retirements, and credits remaining by vintage year for any specified project ID.
  • New charts display retirements by type and scope, and retirements over time for project types with the largest retirement volumes
  • The new tab 'FAQ & Index' answers questions about registry data and includes an index of all database tabs.
