The Center on Civility & Democratic Engagement (CCDE) provides financial assistance to Berkeley undergraduate students who are accepted into the University of California Berkeley Washington Program. The CCDE selects six students each year to receive fellowship support while they pursue full-time course-work and an internship in their selected field during a semester in Washington D.C. “Student education and involvement is key to our mission,” says CCDE advisory board member Selma Meyerowitz. “Since 2010, the Center has sponsored 45 undergraduates living in the nation’s capital. Our goal is to help students to experience the challenges and the rewards of a career in public service or non-profit organizations. Through their affiliation with the Center, and through their experiences during their internships in D.C., our students observe and then report back on the political, ideological and cultural factors that generate conflict and what enables productive problem solving locally, nationally and globally.
The UC Washington Center (UCDC) is a multi-campus residential, instructional and research center that provides students and faculty from the University of California with opportunities to study, research, work, and live within Washington’s rich cultural, political and international heritage.
