The Center on Civility & Democratic Engagement (CCDE), founded by the Cal Class of 1968 in honor of its 40th reunion, seeks to build a better society based on fairness and democratic participation by people of diverse backgrounds and political orientations on campus, in the state and nation, and beyond. The Center is based at the Goldman School of Public Policy.

The Center on Civility & Democratic Engagement Graduate Student Support Fund was created in 2013 with a gift from members of the Center on Civility & Democratic Engagement’s Advisory Board in honor of the 45th reunion of the Cal Class of 1968. The goal of this endowed fund is to provide financial assistance to future policy leaders for generations to come. The Fund will support high-achieving graduate students at the Goldman School of Public Policy, University of California, Berkeley who have established interest in understanding the political, ideological and cultural factors that prevent problem solving, and in learning how to engage people of diverse backgrounds and viewpoints in the resolution of public policy issues. Prospective recipients shall be identified, screened, and selected by the Dean of the Goldman School of Public Policy or his/her designees. This Fellowship is open to masters of public policy students regardless of race, creed, national origin or gender.
