Jim Marver is co-founder and managing director of VantagePoint Capital Partners, a $4.5 billion venture capital firm focused on technology companies in the CleanTech, IT and digital media sectors.
Marver’s 33-year career of public and private technology investing also includes his positions as Senior Managing Director and Head of the Global Technology Group at Bear Stearns, Managing Director and co-head of Technology and head of the San Francisco corporate finance office of LF Rothschild, Unterberg, Towbin and an investment banker with Goldman Sachs.
Earlier, Marver was a senior consultant at SRI International (formerly Stanford Research Institute) where he focused on education and other social policies as well as the regulation of financial institutions. He has been a lecturer at California State University (San Jose), and his publications are in the areas of education, child development, the politics of expertise, corporate finance, and venture capital.
Marver has served as a Consultant to the National Academy of Sciences and National Research Council, and recently served a four-year term on the Board of The National Venture Capital Association. He is Vice Chair of the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees of San Francisco Ballet, and President of its Endowment Foundation. He is a Commissioner and on the Executive Committee of the Asian Art Museum. Marver is a graduate of Williams College (BA) and the University of California Berkeley’s Goldman School (MPP, PhD).
