Interdisciplinary Graduate Student Committee on Youth Policy

Who We Are

The Interdisciplinary Graduate Student Committee on Youth Policy is housed at GSPP and is composed of graduate students in various schools across the Cal campus, including students at the Goldman School of Public Policy, the School of Social Welfare, Boalt Hall School of Law, the Haas School of Business, the Political Science Department, the Graduate School of Education, the School of Public Health, and the College of Environmental Design.  The Committee’s mission is to encourage collaboration within graduate disciplines, and in the broader community, on issues related to youth.

What We Do

Annual Youth Policy Conference

The Committee organizes a conference every spring on a relevant youth policy issue.

The first conference in Spring 2006, Building Bridges: Keeping Youth Connected, was presented in conjunction with the City and County of San Francisco. This “policy in practice” roundtable offered practical guidelines and best practice models to municipalities and nonprofits serving transitional youth.

Last May, the Committee again organized and hosted a conference, Keeping Youth Connected: Overcoming Barriers to Engaging Youth in the Policy, Planning and Implementation of Youth Serving Programs: What Works? Youth from the California Youth Connection presented the keynote, which was followed by “policy in practice" break out sessions.

Keeping Graduate Students Informed

In addition to organizing the annual conference, the Committee is a hub of information to keep graduate students interested in youth policy abreast of courses, fellowships, lectures, and other relevant topics that are taking place both at Cal, in the Bay Area, nationally, and even internationally.
