Fellowship Eligibility Criteria & Guideline

All prospective UC Berkeley PPIA Fellows are expected to dedicate themselves to the traditions and objectives of the PPIA Fellowship Program, have an abiding commitment to public service and contribute to more diverse perspectives in public policy and international affairs. The following are more specific criteria and guidelines:

• Be a United States citizen or legal permanent resident.
• Must have completed junior year of college by the start of Junior Summer Institute (JSI) and have at least one full semester or two quarters of coursework remaining before graduation.
• Have a demonstrated interest in policy issues most affecting historically underserved communities, including African Americans, Asian American/South Asian, Native Americans, Pacific Islanders, Latino/as, and a commitment to working on these issues, as shown by past and/or current service;
• Have demonstrated academic or personal growth in spite of difficult learning and/or living environments;
• Have potential for study at a UC graduate program or at one of the PPIA Consortium graduate schools in public policy, public administration and/or international affairs;
• Must demonstrate an interest in pursuing a professional career associated with public service such as government, nonprofits, humanitarian and international organizations and other related programs.
• Must contribute to the diversity of perspectives.
• Economic need is given consideration.
• All academic majors are welcome to apply

To be eligible for selection as a UCPPIA Law Fellow, candidates must additionally submit a one-page statement explaining: a) the reasons for wanting to pursue joint degrees in law and public policy; b) the skills that the candidate wishes to acquire; c) and how the candidate will use those skills to further his/her public service goals.

Benefits

• Full tuition to attend UC Berkeley PPIA Junior Summer Institute, plus a minimum $1,000 stipend.
• Minimum of $5,000 toward graduate school tuition. UCPPIA Fellows often receive financial offers above and beyond this minimum.
• Eligibility for paid internships and other professional development opportunities
