"The Goldman School of Public Policy remembers William Niskanen who passed away on October 25th. Bill taught at GSPP from 1972 to 1975, and he remained a lifelong friend of the School. Perhaps more than any other GSPP Professor, Bill challenged us to think harder about what government could (and could not) achieve, and he made us all better public policy analysts. In addition to being a cherished and memorable faculty member at GSPP, Bill was a member of Ronald Reagan's Council of Economic Advisors, an executive at the Ford Motor Company, Chairman of the Cato Institute, and a noted commentator on public policy. We will miss his wisdom and his friendship. My spouse Patricia Kates and I have established a graduate student fellowship support fund in memory of Bill Niskanen. If you would like to join us in honoring him in this way, please contact Annette Doornbos at 510-642-8005 or doornbos@berkeley.edu or make a gift online here."
