As California’s premier public institution of higher education, UC Berkeley and its Smarter Urban Futures Project @ CEPP are committed to partnering with local governments throughout the Western US to improve public management and support clean and prosperous urban and regional development. At the Berkeley Executive Seminar (BES) city managers, county administrators, regional directors, and other senior local government officials exchange and acquire tools for improving local government through smart problem solving, while also considering long-term issues such climate change and sustainability.

Participants enjoy a week of intense learning, discussion and discovery with fellow local leaders. The select group of participants will be exposed to new trends in public management, public policy, as well as to problem solving strategies for fiscal and environmental sustainability for local government. The program is designed to foster active participation and to provoke insightful discussion and debate among a close cadre of peers.

Upon completion of this certificate program the local officials will be prepared to return to their communities with new ideas and perspectives.
