Bruce E. Cain is the Charles Louis Ducommun Professor of Political Science at Stanford University and Director of the Bill Lane Center for the American West. Before coming to Stanford, he was the Heller Professor of Political Science at UC Berkeley where he taught from 1989-2012, and is currently Professor Emeritus. While at Berkeley he also served as Director of the Institute of Governmental Studies (1990-2007) and as Executive Director of the UC Washington Center (2005-12). His areas of expertise include political regulation, applied democratic theory, representation and state politics. Professor Cain has been affiliated with the Center on Civility & Democratic Engagement since its inception. He began meeting with members of the Cal Class of 1968 in spring 2007 and was involved in the early discussions to develop the concepts, mission and activities of the Center. Janet Cronk received her BA from Letters and Science in 1969.  She has been a volunteer for many class campaigns, a member of the former College of Letters & Science Executive Board and is currently serving a second term on the UC Berkeley Foundation.  Janet has co-chaired an endowment for the CAL Band, and with her husband, has actively supported CAL Aquatics, Letters and Science, Haas School of Business and Athletics.  She has received the Wheeler Oak and Trustees' Citation for fundraising.  Janet lives in Lafayette with her husband, Rick.


Kendall Mau graduated from CAL in 1968 with a BA in French and Spanish and spent his junior year at CAL's Education Abroad Program at the University of Madrid. He later earned master and doctorate degrees in Business Administration.  A former Peace Corps Volunteer in Panama and Senegal, he has spent most of his career working overseas in international finance and micro-credit lending in South America, Africa, the Balkans, and Central Asia. He is currently Board Chair and CEO of Prisma Microfinance, Inc. He was the recipient of U.S. Presidential Voluntary Service Awards in 2007 and 2008.


Bev Meyer was born and raised in the U.S., but has lived and worked in Europe for many years.  She has recently returned to California and is working to extend the International Festival of Tolerance: Learning, Sharing, and Understanding through the Arts program she has organized in Terezin (Czech Republic) since 1998.  She is also working to develop other arts education and human rights projects, both in LA and internationally.  Bev holds a Bachelor’s degree in English (ΦΒΚ) from Cal and a Master’s degree in Theatre from the University of Texas at Austin.
