Nancy Ryan
Biographical Statement:
Nancy Ryan is a Senior Economist in the California office of Environmental Defense, a leading national non-profit organization which links science, economics and law to create innovative, equitable, and cost-effective solutions to the most urgent environmental problems. Since joining Environmental Defense in 2001, Nancy has led policy initiatives focusing on energy, air quality, climate and ecosystems restoration.
Nancy is currently advising state regulators on implementation of California’s first-in-the-nation law to limit global warming emissions from passenger vehicles and is also helping to prepare a study examining the feasibility of restoring the Hetch Hetchy Valley in Yosemite National Park. Nancy serves on the Technical Advisory Committee of the California Climate Action Registry and the Board of Directors of the Center for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Technologies.
Nancy previously worked as a consultant on a diverse array of energy related projects. In her ten year consulting career Nancy’s clients included conservation groups, state government, electric utilities, and the Electric Power Research Institute. Nancy has taught at the Goldman School of Public Policy since 1996.
Nancy has a PhD in Economics from UC Berkeley and a B.A. in economics from Yale University.
