Patrick Johnston

Biographical Statement:

Patrick Johnston teaches a course on California politics and policy featuring practitioners from the State Capitol. He is also a private consultant in government relations.

Johnston served for 20 years in the State Legislature; 10 in the Assembly and 10 in the Senate where he chaired the Committee on Appropriations for 6 years. He was the first legislator in residence at Cal’s Institute of Government.

Johnston is currently Chairman of the California Foundation on the Environment and the Economy and he serves on the Advisory Board of the Petris Center on Health Care Markets and Consumer Welfare. He is Vice Chairman of the California Bay Delta Authority, the governing body for the state-federal water management system.

Johnston is a graduate of St. Patrick’s College (philosophy) and holds a Master’s Degree from C.S.U. Sacramento (political representation).
